In New South Wales, a ‘Real Estate Class 1’ qualification is required to operate as a real estate agency, and a Real Estate Class 2’ qualification to work for an agency.
The qualifications will differ from state to state.
In South Australia, you must undergo ‘property management registration’ to become a property manager or complete a ‘Diploma of Property (Agency Management)’ to become a land agent.
To become a real estate agent in the Northern Territory, you must complete both a ‘Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice’ (state specific), and a ‘Diploma of Property (Agency Management)’.
No, all employees must be qualified with a state relevant certificate to work in the industry, including in admin and support roles such as receptionists. If the role has direct responsibilities with real estate clients, a certificate is required.
No, each state has their own certificates/qualifications as the laws and regulations within the real estate industry differ from state to state. Therefore, you will need to apply for the state-relevant certificate or qualification if you plan on working interstate.
If you are looking to hold certificates in multiple states, you should discuss this with your training provider. Usually, you must be living in the respective state to receive the qualification.
Residential property management focuses on managing residential properties such as houses, units, and apartment buildings. It involves tasks like tenant screening, rent collection, property maintenance, and handling tenant relations.
Meanwhile, commercial property management deals with properties like office buildings, retail spaces, and industrial complexes. Key responsibilities may include negotiating leases, managing property finances, maintaining building systems, and ensuring compliance with commercial property laws and regulations. The key difference lies in the type of properties managed and the specific needs and regulations associated with each sector.
We do occasionally offer traineeships, but it is uncommon. In most scenarios we suggest that you will have to acquire your own qualifications.
Your real estate certificate is valid if you have worked in the real estate industry within the last ten years. If you stop working in the industry for any specific reason, you must begin working again within a ten-year period to keep your certificate valid.
